i wonder what it's all about

"everything i know is wrong"*

well, not everything but some definetily are. why have i always doubted a 84 year old lady would do such things in such costumes?

what are the old truths i know that must be questioned?

you go, coldplay!

* what i like the most about this part of the song is the timing between this phrase and the old lady's gesture, as to introduce to ourselves a new truth.

somebody else's thought

the things barthes writes is his "camera lucida: reflections on photography" are really great. so simple but so interesting. he's actually sarcastic sometimes about it and other times photography is not one of his "favorite people". however, i'll post some of his thoughts while i'm reading what was in his mind.

"life consists of these little touches of solitude." 3
(when only you can see what no one else can)

"what the photograph reproduces to infinity has occured only once:the photograph mechanically repeats what could never be repeated existentally." 4

"photography is unclassifiable because there is no reason to mark this or that of its occurences; it aspires, perhaps, to became as crude, as certain, as noble as a sign, which would afford it access to the dignity of a language: but dor there to be a sign there must be a mark; deprived of a principle of marking, photographs are signs which don't take , which turn, as milk does. whatever it grants to vision and whatever its manner, a photograph is always invisible: ii is not it that we see." 6

"i feel that the photograph creates my body or mortifies it." 11

"photography is anything but subtle except in the hands of the very greatest portraitists, i don't know how to work upon my skin from within." 11

"i lend myself to the social game, i pose." 11

"for the photograph is the advent of myself as other: a cunning dissociation of consciousness from identity." 12

"is landscape itself only a kind of a loan made by the owner of the terrain?" 13

"in front of the lens, i am at the same time: the one i think i am, the one i want others to think i am, the one the photographer thinks i am, and the one he makes use of to exhibit his art." 13

"i do not stop imitating myself (...). i invariably suffer from a sentation of inauthenticity." 13

"for me, the photographer's organ is not his eye (which terrifies me)but his finger: what is linked to the trigger if the lens." 15

brokeback

Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre. The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is, at once, changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving. Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland--obtaining steady work, marrying, and raising a family--and yet they hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. At summer's end, the two must come down from Brokeback and part ways. Remaining in Wyoming, Ennis weds his sweetheart Alma, with whom he will have two daughters as he ekes out a living. Jack, in Texas, catches the eye of rodeo queen Lureen Newsome. Their courtship and marriage result in a son, as well as jobs in her father's business. Four years pass. One day, Alma brings Ennis a postcard from Jack, who is en route to visit Wyoming. Ennis waits expectantly for his friend, and when Jack at last arrives, in just one moment it is clear that the passage of time has only strengthened the men's attachment. In the years that follow, Ennis and Jack struggle to keep their secret bond alive. They meet up several times annually. Even when they are apart, they face the eternal questions of fidelity, commitment, and trust. Ultimately, the one constant in their lives is a force of nature--love.

pirates

(fotos)

Captain Jack Sparrow is caught up in another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. Although the curse of the Black Pearl has been lifted, an even more terrifying threat looms over its captain and scurvy crew: it turns out that Jack owes a blood debt to the legendary Davy Jones, Ruler of the Ocean Depths, who captains the ghostly Flying Dutchman, which no other ship can match in speed and stealth. Unless the ever-crafty Jack figures a cunning way out of this Faustian pact, he will be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation in the service of Jones. This startling development interrupts the wedding plans of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who once again find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures, leading to escalating confrontations with sea monsters, very unfriendly islanders, flamboyant soothsayer Tia Dalma and even the mysterious appearance of Will's long-lost father, Bootstrap Bill. Meanwhile, ruthless pirate hunter Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company sets his sights on retrieving the fabled "Dead Man's Chest." According to legend, whoever possesses the Dead Man's Chest gains control of Davy Jones, and Beckett intends to use this awesome power to destroy every last Pirate of the Caribbean once and for all. For times are changing on the high seas, with businessmen and bureaucrats becoming the true pirates--and freewheeling, fun-loving buccaneers like Jack and his crew threatened with extinction.

walk the line

Watch the Trailer

In 1955, a tough, skinny guitar-slinger who called himself J.R. Cash walked into the soon-to-be-famous Sun Studios in Memphis. It was a moment that would have an indelible effect on American culture. With his driving freight-train chords, steel-eyed intensity and a voice as deep and black as night, Cash sang blistering songs of heartache and survival that were gutsy, full of real life and unlike anything heard before. That day kicked off the electrifying early career of Johnny Cash. As he pioneered a fiercely original sound that blazed a trail for rock, country, punk, folk and rap stars to come, Cash began a rough-and-tumble journey of personal transformation. In the most volatile period of his life, he evolved from a self-destructive pop star into the iconic “Man in Black” – facing down his demons, fighting for the love that would raise him up, and learning how to walk the razor-thin line between destruction and redemption.
